Welcome to the Howick Sailing Club
Welcome to the Howick Sailing Club for the 2008/09 sailing season. Your committee is committed to providing an infrastructure which will enable all members to pursue their yachting hopes and aspirations within a safe, supportive and happy environment.

We are fortunate to have at the door of our clubhouse the best sailing waters in Auckland and we live in a community which values our sport. The club has strong and active memberships in all the junior centerboard classes, techno boards, a senior fleet of Lasers and various other open centerboard classes, and we are fortunate to be the home of Auckland’s Paper Tiger fleet.

The HSC has a busy year ahead with club sailing each Sunday through until the end of May, training for all junior classes on most weeknights and a ‘Learn to Sail’ programme designed to introduce the young (and not so young) people within our community to the sport of yachting which will be operating on Sunday mornings from mid November. We will again be combining a lot of our Sunday sailing with Bucklands Beach Yacht Club and Glendowie Boating Club, in an effort to provide much bigger fleets for our sailors each week.

We will be once again hosting our own junior regatta on 1st November. We will also host the Auckland Sailing Championships at Howick Beach on the 7th and 8th of March which will provide racing for all the junior classes, selected youth classes and senior classes such as Paper Tigers, culminating in over 250 sailors competing on our waters .

The club will also be providing support, infrastructure and race management for national events such as Optimist, P and Starling North Islands and Nationals and club members will be competing at many regional and national competitions.

We value the contribution all our sailors make to the culture of the club, from the opti greenfleet sailor experiencing for the first time the thrill of sailing their own boat, to the junior and senior sailor who want to race in a friendly, supportive and competitive club environment and to those of our members who are developing their skills and competence to enable competition at regional, national and international events.

The HSC needs the support of a dedicated team of volunteers to allow the safe and competitive sailing which is the basis of our sport, we encourage all friends and family members to involve themselves within the club, enjoy the camaraderie and rewards that come with being part of a team which is enabling the enjoyment and achievement of others.

Wishing you all fair breezes,

Ian Chatteron
